Argentine Justice Takes Action in Domestic Violence Case Involving Former First Lady

On Aug. 6, Fabiola Yañez decided to file a complaint against Former President Alberto Fernandez.
On Tuesday, former Argentine First Lady Fabiola Yañez will testify again before the Judiciary as part of the complaint of physical violence and harassment made against former President Alberto Fernandez.

The Prosecutor’s Office urged the media and journalists to avoid disseminating images of Fabiola Yañez related to the incidents of gender-based violence to prevent her re-victimization.
“The truth of the matter is different,” said former President Fernandez, who has repeatedly stated that he is innocent and never struck his wife, Fabiola.
“I will only say that it is false. What I am accused of never happened. For the sake of my children’s integrity, my own, and also Fabiola’s, I will not make media statements but will instead present the evidence and testimonies to the court that will reveal what truly happened,” he added.
On August 6, 43-year-old Fabiola Yañez, a journalist and actress who served as the first lady of Argentina from 2019 to 2023, decided to file a complaint against her husband.
This followed an investigation by authorities into influence peddling by Fernandez, during which conversations and images were found on the mobile phone of one of his secretaries. These indicated the possible commission of the crime of “minor injuries in the context of gender-based violence.”
Following the complaint, Federal Judge Julian Ercolini prohibited Fernandez from leaving Argentina and ordered him not to approach or contact Yañez in any way, who claimed to be suffering “psychological terrorism” from Fernandez.
